    Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill the vacant position that has arisen in the Library at the Women’s University in Africa.

    The Senior Library Assistant will report to the Senior Assistant Librarian.

    • Provide friendly and efficient customer services to library users, including students, staff members, and visitors;
    • Assist with enquires, provide directional guidance, and help with locating library materials;
    • Provide circulation services including checking library materials in and out, processing renewals, and resolving circulation-related issues;
    • Assist with the organisation, cataloguing, shelving and shelf reading of library materials, such as books, periodicals, multimedia resources, and digital collections;
    • Assist patrons in accessing and retrieving library materials, both physically and digitally;
    • Provide guidance on online search strategies;
    • Provide basic technical support to library users, including assistance with computer workstations, internet connections and other library technology;
    • Assist with collection development and management activities, such as processing new acquisitions, (classification and cataloguing) stocktaking, identifying materials that need repairs, binding and weeding outdated materials;
    • Assist with library digitization programmes such as scanning and uploading content on the Institutional Repository;
    • Assist with library instruction sessions and workshops, including orientations, research skills sessions and digital literacy instruction;
    • Participate in marketing activities to promote library services and resources to the university community;
    • Assist with monitoring and evaluation of library usage; and
    • Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

    Qualifications, Experience and Attributes.

    • Higher National Diploma in Library and Information Science or a related field;
    • A Bachelor’s in degree Library and Information Science will be an added advantage:
    • At least two (2) years’ experience working at the level of Library Assistant or higher;
    • Previous experience working in an academic library or similar library;
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
    • Proficiency with library systems and technologies;
    • Knowledge of library classification systems and cataloguing standards;
    • Strong capabilities to work effectively both independently and as part of a team; and
    • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
