    In her welcome remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the Women’s University in Africa, Professor Sunungurai Dominica Chingarande said: “The participation of women in Science disciplines was hampered by the deeply entrenched patriarchal and cultural norms and practices that undermined women’s agency and perpetuated the subservient status of women.”

    “We take ownership of this day by taking practical strides in celebrating women and girls who are leading innovation and challenging all barriers that hold them back as we provide the well-deserved visibility and recognition of these girls here present since we are the home of gender equality within the institutions of higher learning” she added.

    The ceremony was attended by the Embassy of the United States -Public Engagement Specialist, Fadzi Muzhandu, Embassy of Spain, Deputy Head of Mission – Diego Calatayud,

    CAMFED, Zimbabwe Campaign for Female Education- Senior Program Officer Winnie Farao Dekete, from the Bindura University of Science Education, Dr Lucy Charity, representatives from the Ministry of Women Affairs, students and teachers.

    Winners of the three categories walked away with various prizes after undergoing a thorough adjudication process.
