    Preamble

    This course aims to provide students with an appreciation of the positive effects of purchasing and supply. The course will engender students with a critical understanding of the application of purchasing and supply beyond commercial purchasing to the organization and society.

    Students will learn about how purchasing is used to help alleviate societal problems but more specifically the application of purchasing framework in contexts such as the procurement for charities, the importance of stakeholder involvement in procurement, the elements of the generic purchasing cycle and systems and procedures in purchasing and consequences of a breach of contract.

    Objectives

    The objectives of this degree programme are:

    To enable the students to gain a broad understanding of purchasing and supply techniques and concepts

    To give the student the opportunity to grasp and adapt to the changing trends in purchasing and supply industry,

    To enrich the students’ development and managerial prospects through learning within the context of their own experience, their current and future need of their source markets and society

    To give the student the opportunity to apply the concepts in purchasing and supply to the real life situation.

    Duration of Programme

    The duration of the programme is 4 years of full-time study.

    Career Prospects

    On completing this programme career prospects are stores persons, buyers, procurement officers, logistics officers, procurement managers, wholesale and retail buyers, and purchasing agents.

    Entry Requirements

    To qualify into the Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Purchasing and Supply Management Degree a candidate in addition to satisfying the minimum conditions as prescribed under the General Regulations and the Faculty Regulations for Mathematics and English at ‘O’ Level must have obtained at least 2 passes at “A” Level in commercial subjects; OR

    in place of ‘A’ levels hold a diploma in Purchasing and Supply Management, Accountancy, Marketing Management, IMM, CIM, SAIM will be considered and at least two years working experiencing in purchasing environment..
