    Preamble

    This course focuses on the analysis of managers’ financial reporting and disclosure strategies, and the effects of such strategies on firms’ equity values and contracts. The course also examine various institutional settings and economic contexts in which managers make financial reporting and disclosure choices, paying close attention to the quality and credibility of the information disclosed. The course should help students continue developing hands-on preparation of advanced financial statement financial statement analysis skills in a variety of business decision contexts.

    Objectives

    The purpose of this qualification is to provide competence in performing advanced accounting and reporting functions, performing costing and management accounting functions, rendering taxation services and management advisory services on a routine basis. The successful student will be also able to perform financial management functions as well as rendering management advisory services.

    Career Prospects

    Since the programme is focused on the principles and theory of the core subjects, students acquire the appropriate competences that serve as the basis for entry into the several financial and cost accounting employment opportunities as well postgraduate programmes. This programme also forms part of the requirements towards becoming the chartered accountant affiliated with the Institute of Chartered Accountants.

    Duration of programme and delivery systems

    The programme shall be offered over a period of four years on full time basis.

    Entry requirements

    Applicants can be considered for admission under two different provisions indicated below:

    Applicants should have a minimum of 5 ‘O’ level subjects including English Language and Mathematics with a grade C or better and at least 2 ‘A’ level passes which include at least two commercial subjects. OR;

    Candidates should have a minimum of 5 ‘O’ level subjects including English Language and Mathematics and minimum of a National Diploma in a finance related qualification or  hold an approved accountancy diploma e.g. Institute of Chartered Secretaries (CIS), Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA) and Higher National Diploma (HND)
